How pace is calculated
Pace is how long it takes to run a certain distance (minutes per km or mile). Speed is how far you run in an hour.
Pace calculation:
Speed calculation:
Example: Run 5km in 30 minutes
Pace = 30 ÷ 5 = 6:00 min/km
Speed = 5 ÷ 0.5 = 10 km/h
Pace = Total time ÷ DistanceSpeed calculation:
Speed = Distance ÷ Total time (in hours)Example: Run 5km in 30 minutes
Pace = 30 ÷ 5 = 6:00 min/km
Speed = 5 ÷ 0.5 = 10 km/h
FAQs
What's a good running pace?
Beginners: 7-9 min/km. Intermediate: 5-7 min/km. Advanced: 4-5 min/km. Elite: under 4 min/km.
What's the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance (min/km). Speed is distance per time (km/h). Runners use pace, cyclists use speed.
How can I improve my pace?
Do interval training, tempo runs, and gradually increase distance. Rest and recovery are important too.
What pace should I run a 5K?
Start conservatively. If you can run 6:00 min/km comfortably, aim for 5:45-5:50 min/km in a race.
Should I run at the same pace every day?
No! Mix easy runs (slower pace) with tempo runs and intervals. Most runs should be easy.
